Yes, but I don't think all of these examples do you justice. ;)

I think you have a very good sense of coloring and design, and from these, I especially love 2, 5, 8, 9, and 10. Your texture use is very nice as well, and might I say that you work with "retro" textures quite well? When everyone's moved on to different things, you're still using scratchy textures etc. and it's awesome! It makes your work stand out.

The only thing I would comment on is that some of your icons feel like they could use a little more sharpening. This is more a style taste, but if the image quality isn't very clear to begin with, a blurry icon might look a bit muddy.

Thanks for applying!

Edit: check your invites.

I'm going to say no, only for now though.

You make some very, very good icons. 3, 4 7, and 9 here are well done with nice coloring and cropping (cropping seems to be your strongest point). But i would like to see a little more consistency, and since you're on the right track, it won't be long before that happens.

It feels like there's some one-toned coloring happening in a few of these, such as 1, 5, 6, and 8. Drawing out one color in an icon (in this case, blue) is not a bad thing, but when it because only blue, it makes it look a little bit washed out. But here again, your cropping (or design on 6) in these icons is fabulous, and you're very much on the right track. I would suggest trying to work with the natural colors in the icon, and then lastly, draw out the blue or whatever color it is you'd like to. And with enough contrast, you're sure to avoid any washed out look.

Good luck and I hope you try again soon because you're almost there. :)

Yes, of course. But I have to have you guys apply so it IS an application comm and not an invitation one, ROFL.

I love your work. You have the most unique style which generally uses bright coloring and fabulous texture use. My favorites here are 1, 3, 4 (this one is just gorgeous), 6, and 7. The texture use on 6 is complex and beautiful without being overdone, and your coloring on 7 is stunning.

Congrats and check your invites in a few. :)

Hey hon, a no just for now. You're so close though, and the thing I'd like to see from you is mostly consistency. You have some really great icons though, especially these examples. 3 is very creative, and I love 5, 8, 9, and 10. I think you're at your best when you focus on coloring, because you have a real knack for that. I love your texture use in most of these posted here, but I have noticed that an icon can easily become 'overwhelmed' by textures, something I've been guilty of too. I'd love to see a batch of icons from you that have icons like the last row, because they're just stunning. :)

Hope you apply again soon!

Yes! Although I think you've got a few other beauties I would have included in this application instead. ;) I love how you sort of defy one of the major trends right now to do bright, saturated icons and go for more of a sedated look. It's definitely one of your trademarks.

From these I love 3, 4 (one of my favorites by you), 5 (beautiful cropping!), 7, 8, 9, and 10. I love your use of black negative space - you do it very well. And the b&w Vala icon is crisp and gorgeous.

I'm going to say no for now.

It always amazes me though, because it really seems like you treat every icon like a piece of art - you have very creative, very artistic ideas. But the reason I'm declining for now is because I think your icons tend to lack clarity. I see a lot of graininess in icons like 1 (although again, very creative idea!), 4, 5 (another artistic one), and 8. I think when this happens is when you pull monochromatic colors out of your icons. Icons like 2, 3, 8, and 9 are very pretty. I also like your user icon here.

i would encourage you to play more with color and try not to play up the monochromatic colors in a picture, unless you're going black and white completely. That way, you probably won't get any graininess. But I love it when you play with color, like the icons I just mentioned. Good job and I look forward to future icons from you. :)

It's a yes from me.

You've improved a lot over your last few batches. I like that you've been experimenting with saturated colors more, and interesting backgrounds. I would watch out for image clarity though, because in icons like 1 (although very nice design) and 9, there's a bit of low image quality. Also, if you don't already experiment with sharpening, that's always a good thing to try to boost the image quality of an icon. :)

I'm a tiny bit mixed, but I'm going to go with a yes.

I'd love to see you work more with cropping, because it seems that most of your icons involve either negative space or centered crops. The reason I'm on the fence a bit though is the matter of consistency. You have some really great icons, but I see some room to grow. So I encourage you to keep up the iconing and experiment more with cropping and perhaps sharpening as well.

I must applaud you on your unique sense of coloring. And I love your brightly colored backgrounds as well. My favorites here are 3, 4, and 5.

Yes by a margin because I don't personally feel these examples are your BEST best, and I think you're very close to really defining your style and I think you should get a chance to demonstrate that in this community. I'll tell you why it was close...hopefully this comment will be useful to you...I wasn't expecting it to be this long. :-/

The main trend I notice about your icons is that 1) they tend to be over sharpened bordering on a kind of graininess, like #10 looks, at least to me. Sometimes oversharpening actually works, like #5 which I happen to love--but the important thing is to judge with your eye how much you need to apply the sharpening to create the look you want. And every time you pull out the sharpening tool, remember, less is more (even if your head says, more!more! like mine does. :P)

2) text. It's easy to get stuck in a text rut, working with one kind of text, one kind of color, etc, but you've gotta play with it, play with fonts, text positioning, sizes, multiple text weights. I think you have some hysterical text dialogue, especially in your last batch, but the text presentation itself can be a bit predictable.

3) regarding coloring, I generally adore your coloring, though I think there is a tendency to either under-color or over-color.I'm a coloring nut, so here goes... Right now #2 to me appears rather under-colored--SG1 doesn' t really *pop*. Also the animated grain-line is kind of distracting...I understand you were going for a grainy film look, but I personally think you can get that same effect across without the animated line. Referring now to #5 again which I think is one of your best coloring examples, I love how your pulled that blue/green color out of the background and melded the red tones with the softer pink/yellow tones in Jack's skin. There is also a bit of blue in his face, which helps make his face appear less flatly colored like it may have been in the original image. I also see some purple in his hat--and of course the propeller beanie is priceless. :D Some of the best coloring--in my opinion--is that which has been drawn out of the image instead of directly applied with a texture, brush, etc. A lot of people think I use textures in my icons when I actually use basically color balance, a bit of selective coloring, curves or levels and the smudge brush. If I'm lucky, hidden colors will naturally emerge. So...I would recommend to you that you practice working on an icon using the fewest accessories or tools possible. I call it guerrilla iconing. :P Practice balancing contrast and color while keeping the raw elements like depth, shadow, emotion, etc, of the original image somewhat intact.

4) Cropping. #5, #7 and #10 have some excellent cropping, but I think that's another thing you can play with more. Don't be afraid to get weird with your cropping. Your last batch had some great examples of unconventional cropping.

I've seen that you have a lot of range and I think when you become sure of what effect you want to go for, we will see more of the hi-quality/extremely creative batches that I know you're probably already iconing as I type. Above is just my opinion of how you could possibly improve upon what you already have, by no means is this what constitutes a perfect icon or whatever...the most important thing is to play. If you feel like you're getting stuck in a rut, do something you'd never ever ever think of doing with an image, use a weird filter that's been collecting dust or something. There's always a new perspective to discover. :D

I'm looking forward to your next batch! ;)

It's a yes from me. :) I would just watch out for textures overwhelming an icon and 'seeping' into the subject, such as in 5 and a little in 6. This usually happens from the 'darken' setting. Otherwise, I usually find your texture use quite creative. I would like to see you play a little more with sharpening. :)

It's a yes from me. I think you have lovely, bright icons - a trend I like myself. :) I would watch out for textures overwhelming your icon though, such as in 4 where I personally would have either added another copy of the base on top of erased parts of the textures so they weren't covering the subjects as much.

I love 2, 3, 5, 6, and 8.

Yes! I think you have a very pretty softness to your icons. I especially love 1, 4, 5, and 6 here. The only thing I would be careful for is going TOO soft at times. If you don't already do this sometimes, it's extremely useful to play with softening and sharpening, both. I know often I'm tempted to JUST soften an icon or JUST sharpen an icon, but I've found that achieving both goals is very effective. :)

:D well, it's a no from me anyway, but I think you're nearly there. I actually really like your coloring, especially on #5 and #8, and I enjoy the overall brightness, but you need to watch the graininess of your images and texture use. I find the most effective use of a texture is a texture that kind of disappears into the icon and compliments it's color rather than just sitting on top of the image, like in #6. I love the crop #2, but work on challenging yourself with different ways of placing your pics.

I'd highly recommend you apply again whenever you get a new batch out so we can see how your style's improved!

I am, as well. I agree with easilyunwind's points. Personally, I love some of your icons like 2, 3, and 4, but I feel like you have some work to do in others. One, for instance, is very dark and grainy, and some of your icons get a bit overpowered with textures. You have a ton of potential though. I still think 2 is one of the most beautiful Stargate icons I've seen! So I'd love to see some consistency in your icons which will definitely come with practice!
